About This Project

Project Overview:

Construction on the 280km line from the Cloud Break mine to the Herb Elliott Port in Point Hedland begun in November 2006 at a cost of $2.5 billion to construct. The first train from the mine to the port travelled on 5 April 2008. The project consisted of a quantity of 3.5 million cubic metres of rock to be drilled and blasted, and 7 million cubic metres of fill required to construct the single rail embankment.


Insight Survey involvement:

  • Surveyors for the construction of the Rail alignment and sidings from Port Hedland to Cloud Break Mine.
  • Survey Managers for two of the three zones on the project
  • Implementation of Machine Guidance.
  • Earthworks set out and as constructed reporting.
